  This is one of the many traditions at The Ohio State University. I graduated from Ohio State in 1968 and have been going to the VC ever since I was a student. My last visit was about a week ago. When I was a student, it was the quintesssential campus bar with primarily beer, pizza, and all male bartenders to handle rowdy college students. Over the years, it really hasn't changed much except they now serve a broader range of alcoholic beverages and food, and they have good looking, pleasant, female waitresses. (The clientele is a lot less rowdy now.) The place still looks essentially the same as it did forty years ago although it is brighter and cleaner than it was back then. The pizza and beer (my favorites even though I have more choices now) still taste as good as they did when I was a student. Any visit to Ohio State should include a visit to the Varsity Club.

  Rotolos is a family-owned pizza place in Columbus, Ohio. They now have about a dozen locations around the city, but I have been buying pizza from their original location on West Fifth Avenue for the past twenty years. It is truly great pizza! The crust is home-made and every pizza is covered with a generous topping of cheese along with whatever other toppings you choose. The people are friendly and I always feel like one of the family whenever I pick up a pizza from them. (It is carryout only.)

  When I was attending a Northwestern - Ohio State football game last Fall, the people sitting next to me were eating these small deep dish pizzas they bought at the stadium. It smelled so good, I asked where this pizza place was located so I could stop there after the game. The person gave me directions and suggested that I try the sausage pizza with the optional butter crust. The place was packed when we got there after the game, but we decided to wait for an hour to be seated. The pizza was absolutely delicious and well worth the one hour wait. The waitress was good looking and very friendly. I plan to go back whenever I am in Evanston.
